What Is a BNO Passport?
A British National (Overseas) passport is a UK travel document issued to Hong Kong permanent residents with British nationality status established before 1997. As of 2021, BNO holders can use a BNO visa to live, work, and study in the UK, with a pathway to citizenship after 5 years.

BNO Renewal from UK (for BNO Visa Holders)
If you are a BNO holder now living in the UK on a BNO visa, you apply via the overseas passport service at gov.uk/overseas-passports. Standard overseas fees apply: £116.50 for adults online, £75.50 for children online. Processing is centralised in the UK.

BNO Application Process
1. All BNO renewals must be submitted online. Paper forms are not available for BNO applications.
2. Apply at gov.uk/overseas-passports (from the UK or overseas).
3. Processing takes up to 10 weeks and is handled centrally in the UK regardless of where you apply from.
4. Fast track and Premium same-day services are not available for BNO applications.
